Usability & Accessibility: Fair Access To All

Usability and accessibility are concepts that really go hand in hand. If a site is usable by able bodied people, it should at the same time achieve accessibility for those with some impairment that would normally hinder or prevent their access. Of course, its not quite that simple, because the range of impairments go beyond simple lack of sight or modified input devices.

But there is much to be said for treating them as the same problem. Making a site layout simple and clear helps us all. In addition, structuring the page layout so that both humans and computers can make sense of the content allows both search engines and screen readers (for those with a sight impairment), a better than average experience when accessing a website.
